What is Electrathon?
Electrathon is a program that involves college and high school students in researching, designing, building, and competing in Electrathon vehicles. The main mission is to raise awareness to the environmental problems that come from regular vehicles and turn attention towards electrical vehicle efficiency. The average size of these vehicles is 3’ wide and 8’ long. They are powered by a DC electric motor with either one 24 volt Lithium battery or ten Milwaukee 6amp Lithium batteries wired through a power regulated control box. The time it usually takes to construct, test, and refine these vehicles is 6-7 months. The main event is the endurance competition, which doesn't necessarily demonstrate how fast the driver goes but the distance the car can travel on a single charge. Other competition tests such as braking and maneuverability also show the constructed quality and performance of the vehicle.
