District English Language Specialist Email Phone: 608-654-7377, EXT 345 My name is Madelyn Christopherson. I am originally from Cuba and came to Wisconsin to study Archaeology and History at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse. After graduation, I moved to Madison, where I lived for over 20 years, and where I worked as a substitute teacher. While working as a substitute, I attended UW Whitewater to obtain my elementary teaching license with a Bilingual/ESL focus. In the Madison Metropolitan School District, I worked in K-2 dual language and transitional bilingual programs serving English Learners (EL) and Multilingual Learners (ML). I also worked as a Teacher Leader K-5, supporting the professional development of other teachers in the district. For the last 3 years I taught Kindergarten in a dual language program for the Middleton School District. I recently moved to the Driftless area for its great natural beauty. I live south of Sparta with my husband, who is also an elementary teacher in Warrens, WI. In our free time we enjoy spending time in nature, with family and friends. We also like to travel and reconnect with friends around the world. When we break down cultural barriers, we realize that we share more similarities than differences, a mindset our students must develop to participate in the global community of the future.
