Frequently Asked Questions

Students should arrive at school between 7:35 and 8:00 AM. Students should not arrive before this time, as supervision and crossing guard duties are not available earlier.

Students arriving between 7:35 and 7:45 AM are to report to the multipurpose room near the school kitchen. They will be dismissed at 7:45 to their classrooms.  Students arriving after 7:45 AM may report directly to their classrooms.

All students are expected to be in their classrooms by 8:00 AM. Arriving after that time may be recorded as tardy. The school day ends at 3:00 PM.

In order to keep students safe and to avoid interfering with bus routes, students should be dropped off by the sidewalk adjacent to the smaller of the two North parking lots. Use the entrance near the Veterans’ Memorial.  If you will be parking your vehicle and accompanying your child to their classroom, you may park in marked spaces in the larger lot.  There should be no parking, even short-term parking, along the curb.

Parents who prefer to meet their child(ren) inside the school at the end of the school day are welcome to wait outside of the main office until students are dismissed.  Students will otherwise wait for you in the main lobby and exit the building to their parent/guardian when that person is visible by an adult staff member.

Students are expected to act responsibly and take standard safety precautions near streets and driveways. Please respect the property of our neighbors. All students who need to cross State Highway 33 are required to make their way to the crosswalk in front of the elementary building and cross with the assistance of the guard.  No other crossing guards are assigned to local streets. On school property, students must use the sidewalks and walk bicycles. No unaccompanied child should cut across either parking lot. Students walking or biking home will first report to the doorway adjacent to the small parking lot. After the buses pull out of the lot, students will be released and assisted across the highway by a guard when applicable.

Breakfast is served daily in the cafeteria for grades 1-5 from 7:35 AM until 8:00 AM.

Checks should be made out to Cashton School District. Please put the student's name in the memo line of the check. Please pay ahead on your lunch accounts. We do not keep change in the office.

All students in grades K–5 are required to pay for a subscription to a classroom magazine selected by their teacher.   The magazine is used in the classroom and then is sent home as property of the student.  Cost for the year is $5.00 per student.  Students in grades 4 & 5 are also required to purchase an organizational folder for $1. The money should be sent to the elementary office and separate from lunch money. Payment is to be made within the first two weeks of school. This is nonrefundable if students transfer or leave school.

The nurse or the medical assistant is in either the high school or elementary school from 7:45 – 3:00 daily unless in meetings or working with other students.

If your child is absent or tardy, please contact the office the morning of the absence (or the night before).  Parents/Guardians can leave a message on the attendance mailbox or general mailbox.  Failure to contact the school will result in the school office contacting the parent/guardian at home or at work to verify the whereabouts of the student.  When excusing a student please include the following information. 

• Exact days or hours pupil is absent.
• The reason the pupil is absent.

If the student is ill, please indicate general symptoms.

Call 608-654-5131 ext.121 and leave a message.  Please state the name of your children and the bus number that they ride and the date they will not be ridding.

If students need to leave school during school hours for any reason, you must contact the office by phone or bring a note explaining your reason for leaving and stating the time your child will leave.  Bring this note to the office before school.  You will then be granted a permit to leave the building.

PLEASE WRITE A NOTE OR CONTACT THE OFFICE VIA PHONE BY 2:30 THE DAY OF FOR THE FOLLOWING SITUATIONS:

1. Your child rides the bus and is going to a friend’s house after school

2. Your child is having a friend over after school and is riding the bus

3. Your child walks and is going to a friend’s house after school

4. Your child is being picked up by someone other than their parent/guardian.            

Students without written permission will be expected to follow their usual after-school plans.

The daily bulletin is shared daily on our Cashton Elementary School Facebook page and on the Cashton School District webpage.  In the daily bulletin you will find information about activities as well as links to the school calendar, newsletter, lunch menu, and other important information.  A monthly newsletter will be sent home with each family.

If school is called off early or for a whole day, the announcement will be posted to our DISTRICT website, as well as, broadcast over Z-93, WISV Viroqua, and WKBT and WXOW La Crosse.  A Skylert email message will also be sent to families who have an email address in our Skyward system.  The announcement will start, if possible, before 6:30 A.M. and continue as long as the stations broadcast them.

Parents or legal guardians may be able to attend field trips with their child(ren) when space is available.  Teachers will determine the number of adult chaperones needed to appropriately maintain safety for students. Teachers will provide information about the trip in the permission slip letters that come home in advance.  If you are uncertain as to whether you may attend a specific field trip, please contact your child's teacher or the building principal.

Field trips that are open to all interested parents may only be attended by parents using private transportation, not the school bus. Field trips for which three or fewer adult chaperones are selected and identified for each classroom by school staff may ride the bus.

Students may not travel to school trips by any means other than the school bus in almost all circumstances.  Students may, however, ride with their parents home (not back to school) from the trip.  Notification is requested in writing in advance.

No.  School field trips are intended exclusively for students and, when appropriate, their parents/guardians. Other children are not allowed to come on the field trip.  Field trips are for the primary care provider.  In the event an extended family member is the primary care provider for the student, they may attend in the same manner as a parent.
