What is Electrathon?
Electrathon is a program that involves college and high school students in researching, designing, building, and competing in Electrathon vehicles. The main mission is to raise awareness to the environmental problems that come from regular vehicles and turn attention towards electrical vehicles. The average size of these vehicles is 4’ wide and 8’ long. They are powered by a DC electric motor with two 12 volt batteries. The time it usually takes to construct these vehicles is 5-6 months. The main event is the endurance competition, which doesn't necessarily demonstrate how fast the driver goes but how long it they can operate on two car batteries in one hour. Other competitions such as the braking and maneuverability also show the quality and design of the vehicle.
