Greetings from Cashton Science!! I grew up in Cashton, am an alumni, and loved the town so much that my husband and I moved to Cashton to raise our family. We live on the family farm I grew up on and we love country living. We have a beautiful family- twin girls and a rambunctious boy. I went to UW LaCrosse and didn't really know what to major in, sound familiar? After a few years in college, I realized that science was for me! I graduated from UW-L in 2002 majoring in Secondary Education- Broadfield Science with a minor in Physics. A few years later, I went back to UW-L to earn a Master’s Degree in Professional Development. My license certifies me to teach 6-12 general science and physics, biology and chemistry in grades 9-12.
My first teaching job was at Tomah High School. I really loved Tomah, but realized the district size was too large for this small town girl. After three years, I moved to Sparta to teach science for two years. Sparta was a great place to work, too, but by then I had met my husband and we decided to move to the great community of Cashton. Not long after our move, a job opened up in Cashton and the rest is history. So, that's how I ended up back in my hometown. We love the area, the community and the small-town feel we get from seeing friends and family every day! Besides my daily teaching activities, I am also the advisor of three clubs. The first is called Roots & Shoots. Roots & Shoots is a service based club devoted to helping the communities in which we live. Roots & Shoots was created by the Jane Goodall Institute in an effort to improve our communities, the animals in our surroundings and our environment. The program is a unique way to show young people how to make a positive difference in our worlds. In addition, I also coach the Forensic team. Forensics is a speech-based competition with many categories geared toward helping students become better public communicators. This is a fun, creative position for me that I enjoy every year. Finally, I am also the advisor to the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium team. JSHS is a scholarship science competition in which students design, implement and analyze science research projects. This is a great way for students who are interested in science to get some real-world science application, lab experience and problem-solving skills.
